I am not an amazing artist. I'm not even close. My profile and mug shots both need work, though I've been practicing them both a lot recently so I can get better. My sense of anatomy isn't perfect--I've never taken life drawing or anatomy--and I could do with some classes or some study or some reading or something. Shading and light sources are a problem for me, but I'm working really hard on those and practicing, too, because I want to get better.

I know these things and so does everyone else who looks at my art. The main thing is that I'm practicing and working at it so I can get better.

That brings us to today.

I came across a guy at the student union at school while I was hanging out with my friends and showing Tisha my most recent drawings. He was kind of watching and it looked like he was interested, so I called him over. The picture he first saw was of my character Meara and Kimmi's character Josselin, which I am SO PROUD OF you have no idea. He said I was good and asked if I'd ever thought about doing comics. I said yes, actually, and that there were a number of pages in that book from a project I'm working on now.

He gave some pretty awesome critique and suggestions that I'm definitely going to try, but two things he said REALLY bothered me.

He said there was no point in doing detailed pencil work like for the Meara/Joss picture I'm so happy with because when I ink it, it will all be erased.

This bothered me because, well, I don't care because I'm not inking it. It is a pencil drawing. I won't even be inking my comics, I'm going to be doing all of it in pencil. It made me feel like I was being attacked because if I don't do it in ink then it's an unfinished drawing and it doesn't count.

He also said my art had too much of a 'Disney influence.'

FUCK YOU, SIR. My character designs look nothing like anything Disney. I abhor Disney and I honestly found that INCREDIBLY insulting.
